Summary
Abstract: The Grid Analysis and Display System (GrADS) is an interactive desktop tool
that is currently in use worldwide for the analysis and display of earth

Apple Macintosh, and DOS or Linux based PCs, and is freely distributed over the

GrADS is distributed free of charge, however certain copyright restrictions do
apply. Versions of GrADS are available for several flavors of UNIX, Linux, PCs
running Windows 95/NT or DOS, and MacIntosh computers. The sections below
provide links to download the various versions of GrADS.

Description: Gridded Model Forecast and Analysis Data can be obtained from NCEP for sue with
GrADS. There are two additional files necessary before GrADS can display these
data. GrADS needs a control file, which defines the 4-dimensional space of the
data and assigns the variable names you will use to access the fields in the
data. Control files are always necessary in GrADS. The other file needed is a
map file, which is particular to GRIB format data. The map file allows GrADS to
navigate efficiently.
